Pat Foster's Press Release for SURFERS RECREATION - March 2003

There is good news to report from Wichita Kansas. Within the last few days negotiations between myself and Andy Marocco, pres. of Drag City in Banning Ca. have been completed, so the long awaited
recreation of the famed 'Surfers' Top Fuel dragster will be underway soon.

We have elected to recreate the car as it appeared at the 1966 March Meet in Bakersfield Ca. The racecar and team enjoyed numerous victories in their short but stellar career but all concerned feel this iteration is the one to preserve for all to enjoy forever.

The decision to recreate the piece comes only after many years of searching for the original car and or pieces of the original car by more than one serious individuals, to no avail.

The car will be faithfully reproduced to the very best of my ability with the help and guidance of Hall of Fame members Tom Jobe and Roberto Skinner, original owners. Tom has shown interest in being hands on and will do the engine exactly as it was in '66, plus help in recreating some components throughout the vehicle. Roberto has pledged his support and will be a valuable source of information on the many, many details of such a project. Andy has also pledged to have Adam Sorokn, son of the
original driver, Mike Sorokin be the chosen driver of the car in whatever capacity it is run.

Andy, his father Ron, Adam, Tom, Roberto and myself are excited to see this project finally come to fruition, as if ever there were a single hot rod in our sport that needed to to be where it can be seen
and remembered, this is the one".
